How Do I Get Inspirations for My Writings?

Many years ago, I took up the habit of reading the Bible passages to start my day. The passages are from the Old and New Testaments and the Psalms. These passages tell stories that many of us have become familiar with since childhood, but others are more obscure.

What I began to notice, was that for the stories that were most familiar to me, I didn’t pay as close attention to the details as I could. I lost the richness of the details because I thought I knew the stories. But, it is in those details, that I found the roadmap for my journey. I realized, that much of my previous understanding of the passages related directly to the homilies I heard from priests during Mass. Homilies are intended to help us understand the passages, but with limited time during Mass, there is only so much our shepherds can focus on and teach us. We need to delve into the passages for ourselves to understand the depth and meaning of the words.

After my experience at Eucharistic Adoration, I started clipping and saving Bible verses. These verses were the ones that jumped out at me and spoke to me directly. Many of these words of scripture have found their way into the book. These are God’s words. They are meant for us to find them and to provide our pathway to Heaven.

I liken these scripture passages to Easter Eggs, and I am on a grand Easter Egg hunt (Page 125). Each little passage is like finding a treasure that is really meant to be found, not hidden. Like Easter Eggs, they are in the tall grass or behind the leg of a chair, just nestled enough to still be in plain view. We must search for them; seek them. When we find them, we must reach out and grab them.

“Indeed, the word of God is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating even between soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)

The words of God are living, even today. When I read a passage of the Bible or you read a passage, it may have a different meaning for you than for me. The words may even strike you differently on different days. God uses these words to stir our hearts and our desire to be with him always. My words written in this little book are not meant to replace your own discoveries in reading the Bible, or when attending Mass, but maybe to nudge you back toward them and to help you find and reach out for your own Easter Eggs full of love and joy.
